Chronic wounds present a massively growing burden on the healthcare systems globally, where traditional treatments provide temporary relief but fail to resolve the wound. In chronic wounds, a self-perpetuating state of inflammation derails the healing cascade and perturbs the delicate equilibrium between inflammatory signals, resulting in the perpetuation of tissue damage. We are engineering a wound dressing that acts as a sponge to not only provide moisture but also to capture the excess inflammatory mediators, and restore the balance between regenerative and inflammatory signals in the wound. Our technology will provide affordable and targeted chronic wound therapies to improve the lives of patients.
