Private liability insurance
Download Liability insurance (PDF, 138 KB) is not mandatory in Switzerland. However, it is strongly recommended to purchase a liability insurance! This insurance protects you from claims for damages if you injure another person or damage property belonging to another person.
Every year, a few students get into big trouble because they have damaged a car with their bicycle and do not have a liability insurance. The insurance premiums are low compared to the high financial risk in the event of damage.
Some landlords insist on seeing evidence of your personal liability insurance in order to conclude a rental contract.
