Introduction to Online Teaching

This course provides an introduction to essential online teaching skills for lecturers at ETH.

Course content

Participants will reflect on their own teaching contexts and apply online teaching and learning concepts to their own ETH courses. They will consider human needs in online learning, how to create online learning activities as well as online assessment.

How does this course work?

The course is an online self-paced course that participants can work through independently and at their own pace.

Participants are expected to

• work through sections of the online materials,
• submit an online teaching plan for feedback,
• implement concepts from the course in to their own courses and
• provide a written reflection on their implementation.

Please note: The course is designed for ETH Zurich teaching staff and is focused on ETH online teaching tools. Participants can enrol directly in the Moodle course.

Is this course for me?

This course is designed for those ETH teaching staff who are responsible for designing courses and planning their online delivery. This includes full Professors, Assistant Professors, Senior Scientists, Senior scientific staff, Senior Assistants, Privatdozierende, Lecturers and Postdocs as long as they are in a position that enables them to plan and implement online teaching. Participants must be teaching a course (either during the programme itself or from the following semester onwards) where they have the opportunity to implement what they have learned.

Previous teacher training is not required but it is an advantage.
