Change your health insurance plan
Should you wish to change your student insurance package and switch to another student insurance, you may do so. Usually, a new exemption is required.
Inquire about terms and conditions with your current insurance before you switch plans.
Make sure that:
- the new insurance is accepted in your canton of residence
- you are covered for the whole transition period
- you apply for a new exemption
Leaving Switzerland
Don't forget to cancel your insurance contract before you leave Switzerland!

- Inform your insurance company about the exact departure date and send them the deregistration confirmation.
All student insurance providers will refund unused (full) insurance months. The refund can be made to your Swiss bank account (agree with your bank to only close the account once refunds are made).
If the refund has to be made to your foreign account you will bear the transaction costs – this can become expensive.
