Work experience and education
Katja joined ETH Zurich as Legal Counsel in December 2022. Katja began her professional career in an international law firm in Cologne, Germany, with a focus on intellectual property and working together with scientific researchers from the start. Since 2014, Katja worked as legal in-house counsel for two big pharma companies in Germany and the US, for a large Australian biotech in Bern and Marburg, and last in Basel for a Swedish pharma company specializing on rare disease treatments. On assignments, Katja worked in Sydney, Melbourne, London and Tokyo. Together with colleagues, she lectured a week-long legal class at Lusaka University, Zambia.
Katja studied at the University of Cologne and University of Trier, where she also graduated from the “Subject-specific legal terminology and foreign law programme in English”. Katja is a member of the German Bar Association (Rechtsanwalt) and is a Certified Specialist in Intellectual Property Law (Fachanwalt für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz).
