Sports student Max Schläpfer wants to be one of the best in both his studies and his sporting pursuits. When he is not learning, he is busy training – and emulating his father Ernst Schläpfer, who is not only a two-time champion in traditional Swiss wrestling, but also completed a doctorate at ETH Zurich. “I would have a guilty conscience if my timetable wasn’t full,” says 27-year-old Max, who learned from an early age that he had to manage his time well.

Barbara Koch-Kiennast from the Orientation & Coaching for Students unit explains what it takes to perform well, while Sandra Bajus from the Personnel and Organisational Development team offers tips on time management.

Stefano Brusoni advocates a highly flexible approach to organising working time. The professor from the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC) has been awarded the Golden Tricycle for his family-friendly team leadership.

Plans are taking off in Dübendorf

The planned Innovation Park in Dübendorf is designed to attract companies that are amongst the absolute best in their field. In an interview, Roman Boutellier, Vice President of Human Resources and Infrastructure, and Andreas Flury, Managing Director of the Swiss Innovation Park Association, explain what this ambitious project is all about.

Plus, are you wondering whether you will have to keep paying more into your pension but receive less in return? Piero Cereghetti, who has just stepped down from his post as Head of Human Resources, explains the implications of the “Publica” pension fund lowering its technical interest rate.

“life – ETH community magazine” informs members of ETH Zurich about the latest developments at their university, presents the people behind the strategies and the worlds in which they work, and guides readers through the wide range of experiences campus life has to offer.
