New further education opportunities in 2020
The School for Continuing Education is adding new courses. Six new CAS programmes will be kicking off next year, including three for (future) managers with non-technical backgrounds.
Many continuing education programmes at ETH Zurich serve niche areas in which the university’s resources are able to fill certain gaps. As a result, over time 52 programmes have developed. Six of these programmes will be offered for the first time next year at the ETH Zurich School for Continuing Education. Three of the new programmes are aimed at professionals in specialist sectors, with the other three designed for a broad group of managers.
Three new CAS programmes in applied technology
Specialists with an engineering or natural sciences background can participate in an MBA programme in order to acquire business skills that will take their careers in a new direction. Conversely, in the past there have been no comparable courses for people trained in economics and the social sciences who want to take this step in a technology-oriented company. In collaboration with experienced partners, ETH Zurich has developed three new CAS programmes to convey concepts and production technologies to participants, allowing them to make informed decisions in their companies.
The CAS in Applied Manufacturing Technology, CAS in Applied Technology in Energy and CAS in Applied Technology: R&D and Innovation can be completed individually and with the Certificate of Advanced Studies. They can also be credited towards the new MAS in Applied Technology, which includes a fourth CAS as well as an experimental project and a Master’s thesis.
Collaborative Decision Making under Uncertainty
The new CAS in Collaborative Decision Making under Uncertainty is aimed at mid-level to executive managers who have to make complex decisions, particularly in the areas of sustainability and climate change management. The programme provides an experimental, collaborative space in which participants can test solutions on real problems of their choice. They can also tap into a wide range of methods for complex decision making, such as system and design thinking concepts.
Natural Hazards Risk Management
The new CAS in Natural Hazards Risk Management – as the name suggests – is designed for a specialist group of experts responsible for managing risks associated with natural hazards. It focuses on integral risk management, digitalisation and processes such as climate change. Much of the programme is devoted to interdisciplinary exchange: participants expand their risk management expertise, sharpen their professional profile and expand their professional network.
Sustainable building with local resources
The CAS in Regenerative Materials focuses on the planning and implementation of architectural projects with regenerative materials. It provides participants with the tools and methods to implement projects with terrestrial, bio-based and reusable materials, while considering the life cycle analysis (LCA) at the same time. The programme is aimed at decision makers and experts in the construction industry in Switzerland and abroad, and, of course, people working in developing countries.
