  • The 43 ETH spin-offs that were founded in two thousand and twenty-three (versus 26 in two thousand and twenty-two) created new jobs. 26 percent of the spin-offs were founded and cofounded by women. The new companies were founded in the following areas: 7 new materials, 8 biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, 2 chemical processes and compounds, 1 diagnostics, 5 electrical engineering, 7 IT and communication technologies, 1 medical devices, 7 mechanical and aerospace engineering, 2 sensors and analytics, 3 services and consulting
  • Switzerland's innovative strength benefits from 183 inventions, 87 patents and 31 licenses from two thousand and twenty-three. This continues the success of previous years.
  • ETH members are regularly awarded the most prestigious scientific prizes. These include: 22 Nobel Prizes - including laureates such as Albert Einstein and Wolfgang Pauli, 3 Pritzker Prizes, 1 Turing Award, 2 Fields Medals, 26 Marcel Benoist Prizes, 8 Wolf Prizes and 5 Latsis Prizes
  • ETH is internationally renowned and competitive as a centre of world-class teaching and research, which is also reflected in its places in international university rankings: QS: 7th (up 2 places over two thousand and twenty-two) THE: 11th (equal to two thousand and twenty-two) Leiden: 14th (up 2 places over two thousand and twenty-two) ARWU: 20th (equal to two thousand and twenty-two)
  • ETH contributes to the Swiss economy with a qualified workforce: six thousand and fifty graduates (34 percent women) two thousand and thirty-four Bachelor's degrees (35 percent women), two thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine Master's degrees (32 percent women), 939 doctorates (35 percent women), 190 MAS (43 percent women), 97 teaching diplomas/teaching certificates (58 percent women)
  • One year after graduation, 98 percent of Master's and doctoral graduates have found a job. The available specialists make the grade.
  • More than half of graduates work in the private sector one year after graduation and the majority remain in Switzerland (89 percent of Master's graduates, 74 percent of doctoral graduates).
  • ETH's social and leadership competencies were introduced in two thousand and twenty-three. They combine skills, knowledge and attitudes and enable employees to act decisively on the basis of shared values. These competencies are integrated into all aspects of personnel development and form the basis for the new Lifelong Learning Hub. (Living inclusion, driving innovation, acting responsibly, promoting well-being, building bridges, empowering people)
  • ETH has defined its roadmap towards climate neutrality. The aim is to reduce direct and indirect emissions from campus operations and business travel by two thousand and thirty. Behavioural changes and technological advances will further reduce indirect emissions. A more transparent value chain helps to define new lines and measures.
  • Energy demand per person: ETH Zurich's electricity and heating requirements at the Zurich, Lugano and Basel locations (kilowatt hours per person). Comparison of renewable sources and non-renewable sources.
  • ETH generated one thousand eight hundred and fifty-four tons of waste (including hazardous waste), 45 percent of which was recyclable material. This is a decrease of 7 percent over two thousand and twenty-two.
  • In two thousand and twenty-three, ETH Zurich recorded an increase in emissions, which is partly due to a delayed COVID effect. With the climate targets of the ETH Net Zero programme, a strong reduction becomes mandatory across the board.
  • ETH rents office and laboratory space to its spin-offs at various locations. It provides them with one thousand nine hundred and fifty square metres to support them in their initial growth phase.
  • In the year two thousand and twenty-four, thousands of visitors were interested in the exhibitions, guided tours and events in the museums and at the ETH sites. Some of the visitor numbers are listed below: focusTerra: twenty-one thousand visitors / Treffpunkt Science City: eighteen thousand visitors / Graphische Sammlung: twenty-six thousand exhibition visitors / ETH Tours: nine thousand visitors / ETH Industry Day: one thousand one hundred visitors / Cybathlon: six thousand visitors / Extract: sixteen thousand visitors.
  • ETH Zurich provides a wide range of services for the benefit of society and the economy in Switzerland, including Swiss Seismological Service (SED), Swiss Economic Institute (KOF), Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS), National Centre for Climate Services (NCCS), ETH Library
  • ETH digitises hundreds of thousands of documents every year, including old prints, maps and archive material. Over nine hundred thousand scans have been created, making valuable collections accessible for research and education. This work safeguards Switzerland's cultural heritage and preserves knowledge digitally.
  • The units promote access to shared research infrastructure and interdisciplinary co-operation. Technology platforms such as ScopeM offer scientific services, centres such as the ETH AI Center promote research collaboration, and other initiatives such as RobotX enable specialised research and continuing education.
  • ETH promotes innovation and interdisciplinarity among students. One example is the Student Project House. In this creative think- and makerspace, ETH students can combine the knowledge they have acquired during their studies with the freedom of tinkering.
  • In the year two thousand and twenty-four, the 7 National Centres of Competence in Research published 636 publications, took part in one thousand one hundred and ninety-seven scientific events and carried out 215 other knowledge transfer activities.
