Julia Vorholt receives the 2025 Novonesis Biotechnology Prize
Julia Vorholt, Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Biology, has been awarded the 2025 Novonesis Biotechnology Prize by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

The Novonesis Biotechnology Prize recognises outstanding research and technological contributions that advance biotechnological science for innovative solutions. It aims to raise awareness of both basic and applied biotechnology research.
Julia Vorholt is awarded for her pioneering work on plant microbiomes. Her research has reshaped scientific understanding of how plant microbiomes assemble, impact plant immunity, and enhance plant health and resilience. By studying and engineering microbial communities under controlled conditions, her research provides insights that open new perspectives for sustainable agriculture. "I am deeply honoured to receive this award and would like to thank all members of my laboratory, past and present, as well as our collaborators with whom I have had the privilege to work with," says Julia Vorholt.
The award ceremony will take place in April in Copenhagen, Denmark.
