With the HGP Dining Pavilion «Bella Vista», ETH Zurich created an innovative, modern restaurant for lecturers, staff, students, external guests, and groups on the Hönggerberg campus. The restaurant is open to the public.

Due to the ever increasing number of students and staff, ETH Zurich is continuously expanding and modernizing its catering offers. The dining halls are reorganized and the catering services are adapted to the needs of various user groups.

Against this background, a new restaurant for lecturers, staff, students, and external guests was built at the northern end of Wolfgang-Pauli-Strasse - a project developed by the infrastructure department. The detached pavilion featuring full restaurant service with views of the area surrounding Zurich-Affoltern comprise a basement for production and a ground floor for guests, since the buildung is situated on a hillside.

Innovative, high-quality restaurant concept

The architectural and implementation contracts were awarded in November 2013 as part of a full service competition. The decision was made in favor of Emilio Tuñón Arquitectos from Madrid and Priora Generalunternehmung AG from Kloten. The ZFV will be responsible for the catering in the full-service restaurant. Among other hospitality services, the Switzerland-wide catering and hotel company operates the UniTurm restaurant at the University of Zurich and the Haus der Universität in Bern.

The project results in an innovative, high-quality restaurant concept which forms a symbiosis with the architecture. The operation includes a small lounge area for down-to-earth gourmets with little time as well as a sumptuous à la carte restaurant. In addition, it offers a bar for coffee treats and after-work drinks. All dishes are prepared from fresh, seasonal ingredients from the local region.

Upon completion of the approval process, construction was initiated in May 2015. The opening was in october 2016.
