Through the Australian outback in a self-built solar car

For the first time, a team of students from ETH Zurich is taking part in the renowned World Solar Challenge. Will they be able to keep up with the world’s best?

Driving 3,000 kilometres through the sweltering heat of the Australian outback in a self-built car powered exclusively by solar energy: this is the demanding test facing participants in the external pageWorld Solar Challenge. The roads are rough and it will be mercilessly hot, with temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius in the scorching driver’s cabins of the solar vehicles.

For the first time, students from ETH Zurich will be participating in the competition from 22 to 29 October with a car they have developed themselves. Will they succeed in mastering this challenging race and crossing the finish line? The excitement is rising as the ETH αCentauri team prepares for the competition.
