Kooaba developed image recognition technology connecting the physical world to digital content and was the first to introduce mobile visual search. In January 2014 Qualcomm bought Kooaba for an undisclosed amount through its subsidiary Qualcomm Connected Experiences and integrated it into its AR team Vuforia. In November 2015 Vuforia was sold by Qualcomm to the current owner PTC Inc. The Vuforia platform is the industry’s most advanced and widely adopted augmented reality technology platform. As of 2017 a development team for Vuforia still remained in Zurich.
