Dive into the captivating endeavor of David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes: "Ocean Through The Passage of Time." Immerse yourself in the depths of the Great Barrier Reef, Cuba's preserved Caribbean coral time vault, and the untamed waters of the Philippines. With a fervor for photography, David will unveil his fascination for "Two Worlds" imagery – snapshots that seize both the visible expanse and the concealed realm beneath. Finally, venture to the realm of sea ice, where the harp seal nursery beckons, drawing hundreds of thousands of seals annually as they await the icy stage for birthing.

David Doubilet & Jennifer Hayes
David Doubilet is a contributing photographer, author and speaker for National Geographic Magazine producing over 79 feature publications ranging from the equator to beneath the polar ice. David enters the sea as a journalist, artist and explorer to document the beauty and devastation in our oceans.
Doubilet has spent over 27,000 hours in the sea capturing a hidden world beneath the surface since he first put his Brownie Hawkeye camera in a rubber anesthesiologist’s bag at the age of twelve. Doubilet believes that photography has the power to educate, honor, humiliate, illuminate and influence our behavior.
David is honored to be the recipient of many esteemed photographic awards, The Academy of Achievement Award, The Lennart Nilsson Award and The Explorers Club Lowell Thomas Award. He was named a Contributing Photographer-in-Residence at the National Geographic, a NOGI Fellow and is a member of both the Royal Photographic Society, International Diving Hall of Fame and a founding member of the International League of Conservation Photographers. David Doubilet is honored to be a Rolex Testimonee since 1994.
Jennifer Hayes is a scientist turned storyteller submerging 11,000 + hours beneath the surface from interior Africa, equatorial coral reefs, ponds to the Pacific and both polar regions. She is a contributing photographer, author and speaker for National Geographic Partners. Her goal is this: connect people to the miracle of this planet and inspire emerging explorers and storytellers.
Jennifer’s passion for the study and conservation of sharks and sturgeons lead to graduate degrees in zoology and marine biology. Jennifer is an award-winning photographer, essayist, author of numerous publications and books on marine environments. She is an Explorer Club National Fellow, Principal Photographer for Ocean Geographic Elysium Expedition collaborations to Antarctica, Arctic and Coral Triangle, a trustee of the Shark Research Institute and recipient of the SUNY Presidents Medal for Natural History, Her work has been featured on NPR, CNN, ITN, Good Morning America, ABC World News Tonight, National Geographic TV, Wild and Disney Channel.
Jürg Brunnschweiler
Jürg Brunnschweiler is the Chief of Staff to the President of ETH Zurich and heads the Office of the President.
In his other life, he holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Zurich and has been studying sharks, as an independent researcher, for more than 20 years. He is interested in the behaviour of free-ranging sharks, marine tourism, marine protected area design, and how small-scale conservation projects can be successfully implemented in developing countries. At the Shark Reef Marine Reserve on the southern coast of Viti Levu, Fiji, using a range of methods from direct observation to electronic tagging, Jürg has been studying the life cycle of the bull shark, his focus species, and how shark feeding tourism affects their behaviour.
Viktoria Ivarsson (moderator)
Viktoria Ivarsson is the International Relations Officer at ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology in Zurich, where she works on projects and events of international scope to increase the visibility of the university worldwide. She also leads the ETH Circle, an international network of alumni and friends of ETH Zurich who act as ambassadors of the university. Composed currently of 50 Founding Members, the community actively supports ETH Zurich in enhancing its international reputation and in maintaining a global network. Viktoria holds an MAS in Sports Administration and Technology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), and an MA in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (HEI). A Swiss and Swedish national, she is fluent in 4 languages, and is currently learning German. A member of the Nordic Rowing Association, she can be found most mornings rowing on Lake Zurich.
