Mirslav Sik has been Full Professor of Architecture and Design at ETH Zurich since March 1999.
Miroslav Sik was born on 7th March 1953 in Prague, (then) Czechslovakia. From 1972 until 1978 he studied architecture at the ETH Zurich under M. Campi, A. Rossi and D. Schnebli. He concluded his practical studies with H. Jahn in Chicago. Having obtained his diploma he worked as a researcher at the Institute for History and Theory of Architecture (gta) at the ETH Zurich from 1980-1983, focussing on modern Swiss architecture after World War II. From 1983-1990 Sik held the position of head assistant of the chair of Professor F. Reinhart. In 1990 he returned to Prague to teach in the department of Architecture of theTechnical University and submitted his habilitation thesis in 1994. In addition, Sik was invited as guest professor in 1993-94 and 1997-98 to the ETH Lausanne.
Since 1987 Sik heads an architecture firm in Zurich and has built two catholic centres, one in Egg in canton Zurich and the other in Morges in canton Vaud, as well as living accommodation for a muscian in Zurich. Miroslav Sik is considered the initiator of "Analogen Architektur", the manifest and projects of which were exhibited 1987-1991 in Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Stockholm und Vienna. Sik's published articles include publications in Archithese, Lotus, Daidalos und Werk. Werk catalogues of "Analogen Architektur" were published in Zurich, Edition Boga, and in 1990 and 1994 in Prague.
