Prof. Luca Benini has received the A. Richard Newton Technical Impact Award in Electronic Design Automation. The award honors a person or persons for an outstanding technical contribution within the scope of electronic design automation, as evidenced by a paper published at least ten years before the presentation of the award.

Jochen Mueller, former doctoral student in the Engineering Design and Computing Laboratory of Professor Kristina Shea at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering, was awarded the Lopez-​Loreta Prize.

Lignin is one of the most common organic compounds in the world. What if this complex substance could be easily converted into sustainable fuel? Patrick Hemberger, scientist at the synchrotron of the Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen, was the first to find an efficient way to investigate this process in detail. For his work on reactive intermediates in heterogeneous catalysis, he has been awarded the 2020 Ruzicka Prize.

The International Open Benchmark Council committee has recognized Professor Torsten Hoefler (D-INFK) with the BenchCouncil Rising Star Award for his valuable work in the field of benchmark testing, metrics and optimization.

Timothy Roscoe (D-INFK) from the Systems Group at the Department of Computer Science received the SIGOPS Hall of Fame Award for the paper “The Multikernel: A New OS Architecture for Scalable Multicore Systems”, which he co-authored in 2009. This paper formed the basis for the research operating system Barrelfish.
