Dan Maydan Prize for Maksym Kovalenko

Maksym V. Kovalenko, Professor at the Laboratory for Inorganic Chemistry (D-CHAB), receives the Dan Maydan Prize 2021 in Nanoscience Research for his pioneering work on the surface chemistry of nanocrystals and their use for electronic and optoelectronic devices.

The Dan Maydan Prize in Nanoscience Research was established by the Hebrew University, together with the American Friends of the Hebrew University (AFHU), and is awarded annually to outstanding young scientists, from Israel or abroad, for significant academic achievements in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The prize is named after Dr. Dan Maydan, a world-renowned pioneer in the hi-tech semiconductor industry and a prime mover in establishing the Israel National Nanotechnology Initiative, which strongly supported the Hebrew University’s Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

This year, Maksym V. Kovalenko, Professor at the Laboratory for Inorganic Chemistry (D-CHAB), is one of the two Dan Maydan Prize laureates, awarded for his pioneering research in nanoscience and nanotechnologyIn the past 15 years, Maksym Kovalenko focused on the development of synthesis methodologies and the surface chemistry of colloidal nanocrystals. He has showcased the utility of such nanocrystals in photodetectors, batteries, light-emitting devices and other optoelectronic devices. In the last several years, his group introduced a new class of colloidal quantum dots, made of lead halide perovskite nanocrystals. These materials show great promise as both classical and quantum light sources.

The prize is endowed with 10,000 US dollars. A festive event is planned in mid-October.
