While new professors will only be able to authorise purchases themselves when they officially take office, it is possible to plan and organise purchases (and hiring) ahead of time with the help of your department. Please get in touch with your department’s coordinator and finance advisor to help you through this process, and take a look at our start-up fund policy to avoid any unnecessary delays with orders. Tip: For orders over CHF 10’000, purchase requests made prior to your arrival are signed by the Head of Faculty Affairs.

Please note that according to WTO regulations, a tendering procedure (bidding process) has to be carried out for any procurements (goods and services) valued over CHF 230’000. Depending on the form of procedure, it can take up to 4 months until an order can be placed. Please contact your Purchasing Coordinator in order to determine the correct procedure for your ordering needs and in order to start early enough.
