Registration in Switzerland

If you move to Switzerland from abroad to work at ETH, you must register with your municipality of residence within 14 days of your entry and at the latest before the start of your contract. The registration is subject to a fee.

Documents for your registration

You will need the following documents for your registration:

Passport or identity card or foreigner's identity card (if available)
Copy of valid employment contract or confirmation from HR Operations about the guest stay for academic guests, visiting professors, scholarship holders and compulsory interns
Tenancy agreement or residence permit
Visa authorisation or confirmation of residence permit (only for non-EU/EFTA nationals)
Civil status papers (marriage papers and birth certificates of children)

If you live in the city of Zurich

If you are moving to Zurich from abroad, register at the external pageResidents’ Office in the City Hall.

After receiving your residence/work permit

As soon as you have received your permit, please upload a copy of your valid foreigner's identity card (front and back) in ETHIS under Personal > Personal data > Residence permit.
