AEM 2023 Recap & Outlook 2024
Touch UI interface for AEM
The classic interface for AEM, which we are all familiar with has been deprecated by Adobe and is no longer supported. Therefore, great effort on the part of Software Services and the HK web team have been made to prepare the system for the switch migrating all templates, components and functionality in the system to the new UI. The full Touch UI interface will be introduced and made available to all authors in the beginning of 2024.
New wide Homepage design
The pilot MVP for the new wide homepage template with four newly designed components was completed and launched in January 2023 for the ETH main site. Since then, additional components have been developed or redesigned for the launch of the new wide homepage in AEM for all authors this November.
In line with the transition to Touch UI, all components developed for the new homepage have been developed for the Touch UI interface and the new wide homepage will only be editable in the new protected page Touch UI page editor. Information about the switch and the new homepage can be found on the protected page ETHZ wide homepage template page and a portion of the new Touch UI manual is available now.
Academic calendar component
The academic calendar component has been updated with a new design is soon to be released.
Gastro menu overview (cockpit)
There has been a partial redesign and an new API for the backend of the application for the Gastro Menu overview (cockpit) and more to be released in 2024.
Pilot for new News subscription with tags component
A POC for a new news subscription component based on tags was developed for ETH news and internal news. Further developments are planned for a general release of a similar component to the system so that potentially departments can offer news alerts that users can subscribe to based on their specific needs (e.g. internal news, department highlights, general news, student news, etc)
New Daylight component
The existing Daylight course component was reviewed and a new concept has been developed, reviewed and approved by stakeholders which will provide two display options in the future for a product list and a course list. The new component is expected to be completed by first quarter of 2024.

- Ongoing accessibility improvements, such as additional support for authors in choosing headings, improved support for alternative texts.
- Introduction of the Siteimprove tool for better accessibility and quality control: 1 person per website can get access to Siteimprove as Chief Editor.
Mail to . - A new web analytics solution, based on Google Tag Manager and the actual tracking tool protected page Piano Analytics, was rolled out to the entire ETH. Users can receive support with a training offering, recordings, and documentation.

Daylight product and course list
Ongoing is the final design and development for the new Daylight course list and product list component which will be released early 2024.
POC for the dynamic translation of the ETH main site to French and Italian
In line with a requirement for federal sites, there is a need to provide the ETH main site in French and Italian, as well as the current German and English versions. A new project to determine if the additional languages can be delivered on the fly via a translation of a current site is underway.
Redesign of person detail/CV pages in AEM
Research and analysis of the current person list/CV solution in AEM is ongoing and a new concept will be developed to provide a better layout and design for the base information needed for the presentation of CV information for AEM websites.
Redesign and update of form functionality in AEM
Research and analysis of the form solution in AEM will be done and a new concept will be developed to provide a better layout and design for forms for AEM websites.
Readspeaker
To deliver a more enhanced user experience, we will be introducing the Readspeaker solution for news articles in AEM.
