New Building Management System for ETH Zurich

This site serves as information platform for the procurement process and implementation of a new building management system at ETH Zurich.

Building management systems are the core of any building automation. They map all automation processes, monitor usage and record operating data in real time, and control essential building technology processes such as heating, ventilation and lighting. The aim is to ensure the safe operation of buildings, equipment and systems while optimising indoor climate and energy consumption.

ETH Zurich has been using the ControlMaestro system for more than 20 years. Due to uncertainties about whether and to what extent functional and security updates will continue to be available, ETH is planning to re-tender for a new building management system ahead of schedule. Leveraging synergies within the ETH domain, the invitation to tender is to be published together with the external page Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).

The process of procuring and implementing a new, future-proof building management system at ETH Zurich is expected to take until 2026. The main steps are: 1) Approval for public tendering, 2) Publication of invitation to tender, 3) Evaluation and procurement, 4) System implementation.

Approval for public tendering

ETH Zurich and PSI launch joint WTO tender for a new building management system

ETH Zurich and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) are working together to replace their existing building management systems: they are publishing a joint WTO invitation to tender for a future-proof, high-performance building management system. The new system is expected to not only meet the existing requirements, but also contribute to the further development of digital control and monitoring technologies and thus accelerate the digital transformation in building and equipment automation.

The close cooperation of ETH and PSI in the procurement process makes it possible to leverage synergies and combine the expertise of both institutions. The replacement of the building management system is an important step in the technological development of both organisations and will enable them to meet the increasing demands for automation and efficiency.

New timetable for WTO tender

The Steering Committee of the project to procure a new building management system for ETH and PSI has approved a new timetable. The original timetable for publishing the tender documents in November proved to be too ambitious.

The publication of the tender documents on simap.ch is now planned for the end of February 2025. This new schedule will enable the project team to meet the high quality standards it has set itself. We would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and support.
