Adapted and new component options for the ETHZ content page (wide)
The protected pageETHZ wide pagelock contains more white space, which serves general readability and accessibility. In addition, this presentation is optimised so that the content is presented in the same way on the desktop, as well as smaller devices.
For reasons of accessibility and user-friendliness, text is limited to a maximum of 80 to 100 characters in width. This is to visually optimise the readability of the text. Text is never displayed in the full width of the wide page.
Components with text are typically displayed in text width but some component displays have been adapted on a wide page and are available at large and/or full width. In addition, with the introduction of the Touch UI to the system, three additional components have been added for use on the wide page template.
The Table component, for example, now has two display width options: Fullwidth (default) or Textwidth. For larger tables requiring scrolling vertically to see content, one will notice the addition of the sticky header functionality for better usability.
One can also configure a total footer row to be displayed if all data in a column is numerical. There is also an optional sorting functionality for tables with content where sorting makes sense. A caption field (which serves as a title for tables with respect to accessibility) has also been added if relevant for the table.
The Person list component has an updated List with images option designed for the wide page layout. Note: Images of ETH members will only show if they have shared their image in e-Addressen.
