ETH website takes silver

Relaunched in autumn 2013, the new ETH website ethz.ch was honoured in the category “Usability” with one of four silver medals. Ten of the 396 projects in total won gold, 28 took silver and 44 bronze.

In their verdict, the specialist jury honoured the ETH web relaunch for the large quantity of information on the websites being prepared in an easily usable manner. The ratio of information to multimedia and images is balanced, said the specialist jury. Design, user-friendliness and freedom of access were lauded: “What stands out as positive is the preparation of the search results, which can be filtered by categories directly, as well as the many areas of well-implemented accessibility,” was the jury’s verdict.

Silver only goes to “technically outstanding work” at the Best of Swiss Web Awards (BOSW). Projects awarded silver are given the title of: “Outstanding projects in all aspects, which are exemplary in their implementation in the relevant specialist area”. Since being relaunched, the ETH Zurich website has comprised a website for the public, one portal for employees and students each, as well as specialist sites for the research community.

The big winner of yesterday evening’s event, which attracted 750 guests and was hosted by TV presenter Marco Fritsche, was the e-banking service of the Swiss bank UBS: UBS e-banking won gold twice in the “Technology” and “Mobile Web” categories and was also voted “Master of Swiss Web 2014” thanks to the positive response in the audience.
