Free menstrual products on the ETH campus

Menstruation is a normal occurrence for thousands of the university community. In order to ensure the best possible work and study environments for their members the ETH Zurich provides menstrual products free of charge.

Menstruation Station
The 22 toilets equipped with a "Menstruation Station" are clearly marked with turquoise stickers.

In total, 22 dispensers which dispense free tampons and pads have been installed in women's and in gender-neutral toilets on the Hönggerberg and Zentrum campuses, as well as in Basel and in the Octavo building in Oerlikon.

The aim of the pilot project is to contribute to the normalisation and overcome the taboo surrounding the topic of menstruation at ETH Zurich, but also in Swiss society in general.

«Offering menstrual products in public locations aims to increase access for those who need it, whether due to finances, irregular cycles, or simply forgetting one’s personal menstrual products at home», says one of the initiators Katherine Lonergan, PhD student at the D-MAVT and active member of the LIMES Female Association.

The pilot project was initiated by several campus women’s groups and implemented together with Equal! – Office of Equal Opportunities and Diversity and ETH Facility Management. The project is also supported by VSETH, AVETH, the external pageETH Women Professors Forum and various other university groups.
