Sonia Seneviratne is the new associate vice president for sustainability of the Executive Board. As of 1 January 2023, she will take over this function from Reto Knutti, who has worked meritoriously for the thematic focus for eight years.

A new Associate Vice President for Sustainability, a committee for the further development of digitalisation and two renewed continuing education programmes: these were the topics addressed by the ETH Zurich Executive Board towards the end of the year.

In November 2022, ETH Zurich’s gas consumption was significantly lower than in previous years. The university is currently implementing further measures to save energy.

During an 8-week programme, data science talents from ETH Zurich solved data-related problems for non-profit organisations that support social causes.

In contrast to other ETH Zurich employees, it is still unclear for doctoral students whether and when they will receive a cost-of-living adjustment and how this will be financed. The Executive Board is unhappy with this situation. A working group will seek a solution in early 2023.

In 2022, the Executive Board’s traditional Christmas reception could finally take place in person again after a two-year break. This time, ETH community members closed out the year together on the Hönggerberg campus.
