From 1978 to 2001 Friedrich Ernst Würgler has been full Professor for Genetics at the Institute of Toxicology. Previously, he was Assistant Professor of zoology and Associate Professor of zoology, especially of genetics. He retired in October 2001.



Prof. Würgler from Winterthur, born on June 29, 1936, studied biology ath the ETH Zurich. He graduated in 1964 from the Institute of Zoology (silver medal of the ETH). Then he worked at the Institute of Zoology as assistant, assistant professor and associate professor in the fields of radiation biology, radiation genetics, chemical mutagenesis and computer based data analysis. In 1978 he transferred to the Institute of Toxicology. His main interests were the development of relevant and efficient short-term tests for the detection of genotoxic carcinogens.



F. E. Wuergler was in charge of the admission examinations to the ETH Zurich and he was a committee member (former president) of the Gesellschaft für Umweltmutagenese (GUM).
