Reporting an Accident

As a supervisor, you are responsible for ensuring that the health of your staff and students is protected and that accidents are prevented within ETH Zurich. You are obliged to designate safety officers and to inform your staff/students of the essential points on safety and intervention should an event occur.

For an overview of your health and safety responsibilities as a supervisor, download this Download Suva brochure (PDF, 927 KB).

Accidents happen suddenly and unintentionally. Rapid response is useful in any case. In the event of an accident, please immediately alert the internal emergency number 888 or +41 44 342 11 88 if you are calling from a mobile phone.

To report an accident to SUVA (relevant for ETH employees with an employment contract), please complete the accident report in the reporting portal under “Employment & work": link to the reporting form. Students and members of ETH Zurich without an employment contract must report the incident to their relevant accident insurance.
In the event of accidents in laboratories and workshops, SSHE carries out an accident investigation. This incident investigation is not about looking for culprits. Instead, its aim is to avoid similar events in future and to improve the operational safety system.
