The principle behind temporary positions
Temporary positions for scientists are important elements of research and teaching. Mobility is a factor for success in academic careers.
ETH Zurich offers attractive scientific positions that fit into a scientific career path. Pursuing an “internal career” rotating between these types of positions is not the goal and is not supported.
The authority to appoint professors lies with the ETH Board. The authority to offer permanent positions or convert a temporary scientific position into a permanent one lies with the Executive Board of ETH Zurich.
