Perhaps it's the limited choice of on-site catering, the long way to the nearest coffee machine or the lack of a standing desk: for the next issue of 'life' magazine, ETH members have the chance to describe what improvements they would like to see at their place of work.

The Union of Students at ETH Zurich (VSETH) has carried out the “wiegETHs” (HowsETHgoing) survey for the second time. Thanks to collaboration with the Academic Association of Scientific Staff at ETH Zurich (AVETH), scientific staff took part in the survey in addition to students. 10,823 people provided information on study and working conditions as well as their mental well-being. Initial results are now available.

After three years of dedicated work, Florian Trepp and his team have successfully catalogued and photographed approximately 2000 objects in the Anatomical Collection of Domestic Animals at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, ETH Zurich, led by Susanne Ulbrich. The collection, which includes some antique specimens, is now available to the public in the virtual world of the nahima (Natural History Collections Management digitally) database by the ETH Library.

ETH Zurich is a place of innovation – not only in research, but increasingly also in the way we develop and operate our campus. The program “Digital Twin – Building Bridges to the future” aims to create a digital twin of ETH's entire campus infrastructure by the end of 2028. This will lay the foundation for a future-proof campus that will secure the framework for ETH Zurich's excellent research and teaching.

A job satisfaction survey is currently underway for all ETH employees. The anonymised results yield insights into how research groups and teams are doing. How do those insights benefit you and your team? Three employees reflect on their experiences from 2021.

Old banner canvases are transformed into modern bags, key fobs and pencil cases. The banners that would otherwise be thrown away gain a second life.  

MSc MTEC graduate Daniel Schoess has won the EHI Foundation and GS1 Germany Science Award for his Master’s thesis in recognition of his innovative approach to predicting product interactions using minimal retail data.
