The campus as a lab

The ETH Zurich campus is no ordinary campus – it's a laboratory investigating sustainability too, and you can read all about it in the latest edition of life, ETH's community magazine. Inside, you'll also find a glimpse into the challenges that Lino Guzzella faces as ETH president.

At the heart of June's issue of life, the ETH community magazine, is an exploration of the ways in which ETH Zurich's scientists take experiences from everyday life at the university and apply it to their research. Both the Hönggerberg and Zentrum campuses are providing intriguing testing grounds for matters of sustainability – like the sustainable gardening projects taking place across the university's numerous green spaces.

At the start of the year, Lino Guzzella took the helm as president of ETH Zurich. In conversation with life, he talks about his responsibilities and why it is so important for ETH to stand out from other universities in today's competitive global environment.

Also in focus is the subject of threat management: Katherine Timmel, head of the Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) staff unit at ETH Zurich, explains what ETH members can do to prevent violence on campus.
