The pandemic poses great challenges for the catering businesses at ETH. As a result of the reintroduced work from home requirements and the semester break, the number of visitors has decreased significantly and led to a reduction in the range of catering options.

Hönggerberg

Session examinations at ETH start today, Monday, 24 January. With caterers anticipating additional demand as a result, the food market on the Hönggerberg campus is reopening as an internal canteen. This means it will be available for use by all ETH members, but not by external guests, as an ETH card must be presented for admission. Covid certificates are not required.

Guests without an ETH card can eat at the following locations on presentation of a Covid certificate (vaccinated or recovered): Fusion meal & coffee, Alumni quattro Lounge and Rice UP! All these locations also offer a take-away option, and at least one food truck also stops daily on the Hönggerberg campus.

Zentrum

On the Zentrum campus, Polysnack reopened a week ago with a Covid certificate requirement (vaccinated or recovered) in addition to Clausiusbar and Einstein/Zweistein, which also operate based on the same certificate requirement. Guests without the required certificate can purchase food to take away. Catering alternatives are also available at the CaféBar in the main building and from at least one daily food truck. Another option is the food trailer, now with an additional kiosk in the ETZ building on the Gloriarank site. On 31 January, the Polyterrasse canteen, which is currently still under renovation, will reopen its doors as an internal canteen.

Looking ahead

The caterers are considering the prospect of further reopenings for the start of the spring semester, depending primarily on how the pandemic develops. If work from home requirements are cancelled, caterers at both locations will be able to react quickly and open up more locations. Any related changes will be communicated on Internal news.
