The parking garage in the main building of ETH Zurich will open its doors again on 7 November 2022. The garage was under renovation since summer 2021. This work has improved both traffic routing and orientation for users, with barrier-free access guaranteed throughout.
There are now 106 parking spaces for cars, including 16 personal spaces with electric charging stations. In the north courtyard and in the garage, there are also 100 bicycle parking spaces, 16 motorbike parking spaces and four parking spaces for people with limited mobility. To make room for these additions, some car parking spaces were eliminated. Official requirements stipulating wider gaps between cars further reduced the number of parking spaces. On the D floor, there is now a direct connection to the main building, but this will only be accessible in late 2023 once renovations on the undercroft are complete.
This will be followed in July 2023 by the opening of the forecourt, which is above the garage and has also been subject to renovation. In future, the forecourt will offer greater flexibility of usage and barrier-free access.

Art by Harald Naegeli largely preserved
Works by Harald Naegeli were also affected by the renovation of the garage. Despite the extensive renovation measures, 22 of his works were preserved on site. Works located on walls that were earmarked for demolition were documented. Three of them were removed using a special restoration process, inventoried and included in the Holdings of ETH Zurich Architectural Culture. In the meantime the works were on loan to the Zurich Musée Visionnaire.
