How to implement the new competencies in your everyday life

“Acting responsibly”, “Driving innovation”, “Building bridges”, “Nurturing well-being”, “Living inclusivity”, “Enabling people”: The new social and leadership competencies have been in place since the start of this year. But how can we integrate these competencies into our everyday life?

The social and leadership competencies are intended to reflect a common understanding of how we at ETH Zurich engage with ourselves and others, which kinds of interpersonal behaviour we wish to promote and what good leadership means. This way the competencies can make a crucial contribution to our well-being and success.

It is important to go beyond stating what is expected and possible. For the competencies to have a positive impact, they need to be actually lived up to and put into practice on a day-to-day basis.

Help with implementation

A new campaign is intended to support this as of today. From now on you will regularly find Tips and Tricks on the Staffnet employee portal on actively putting the social and leadership competencies into practice in your everyday life.

To start off, there are three golden rules today on how to word feedback constructively. In the coming weeks you will receive tips on things such as how “collegial coaching” works and how you can enhance your personal well-being. We will also keep you updated about forthcoming training, courses and events concerning the new competencies.
