In homage to the architectural historian and photographer Hans-Peter Bärtschi, we celebrate a new photo book from the ETH Library and the complete digitisation of his photographic archive.
Explore the cultural assets of Switzerland’s industrial heritage: on 27 November 2023, we will be celebrating the rich photographic legacy of Hans-Peter Bärtschi (1950–2022), a pioneer of industrial archaeology.
Join us for the book launch of Thomas Eichenberger’s photo book, external pageEisenbahnbilder – Eisenbahnbild. It is a must for everyone interested in photography, industrial architecture and the history of rail travel. The photo book presents a wide selection of Bärtschi’s early photographs, which document the transformation of the Swiss railway system from 1965 onwards.
All his life, Bärtschi was a passionate advocate for the protection and preservation of Switzerland’s industrial assets. His impressive photographic legacy comprises 250,000 images from the Industrial Culture Photo Archive which are now accessible online in full through the ETH Zurich Image Archive. This unique collection offers a fascinating glimpse into Switzerland’s industrial and railway history.
