News from the Executive Board 2023/9

Changes in the management of the fund "Society in Science. The Branco Weiss Fellowship" as well as new elections and re-elections at the kihz Foundation: These were the topics of one of the last Executive Board meetings.

Detlef Günther new member of the fund management of "The Branco Weiss Fellowship"

Detlef Günther, Professor for Trace Element and Micro Analysis, will join the management of the fund external page "Society in Science. The Branco Weiss Fellowship" as of 1 January 2024. This means that, in addition to Detlef Günther, the fund's management will now consist of Heidi Wunderli-Allenspach (Professor Emeritus in Biopharmacy and former Rector of ETH Zurich), Angelika Steger (Professor for Computer Science) and Josef Zeyer (Professor Emeritus for Environmental Microbiology).

Heidi Wunderli-Allenspach will withdraw from the Branco Weiss Fellowship programme from summer 2024 and concentrate on financial tasks in the fund management. Detlef Günther will take over her duties in the Fellowship Programme.

New elections and re-elections at the kihz Foundation

The Board of Trustees of the external page Foundation for Childcare in the Zurich University Area (kihz) consists of at least three persons appointed by ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. In the current term of office (from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2023), the following ETH members are represented on the Board of Trustees

  • Julia Dannath, Vice President for Personnel Development and Leadership
  • Volker Hoffmann, Chair of Sustainability and Technology, D-MTEC
  • Christina Spengler, Exercise Physiology Lab, D-HEST
  • Lukas Vonesch, Head of HR Consulting

At one of its last meetings, the Executive Board re-elected Julia Dannath, Christina Spengler and Lukas Vonesch as ETH representatives on the Board of Trustees for the term of office from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2026.

After two terms of office, Volker Hoffmann has decided to step down from the Foundation Board. The Executive Board has appointed Catharina Bening-Bach from the Chair of Sustainability and Technology (D-MTEC) as the new ETH representative. Catharina Bening-Bach will take up her position on the Board of Trustees on 1 January 2024.

The Executive Board would like to thank Volker Hoffmann for his services to the kihz Foundation over the past few years and wishes Catharina Bening-Bach a good start in her new role.
