Stalemate in negotiations with publishers: These are ETH Library's solutions from January 2024
The national negotiations between swissuniversities and Elsevier and also with Taylor & Francis did not lead to an agreement by mid-December 2023. The ETH Library, together with the other universities affected, is preparing for a situation without a contract from January 2024.
The ETH Library will offer members of ETH Zurich the following options from 01 January 2024:
Access to content from Elsevier and/or Taylor & Francis
As long as negotiations continue, it can be assumed that reading access will remain available at the beginning of 2024.
If no agreement is reached at the beginning of 2024, access to current content from 2024 may be restricted. We will keep you informed about this process.
Open Access publishing with Elsevier and/or Taylor & Francis
Elsevier
You can continue to publish your articles open access free of charge if if you submit them to Elsevier until 31 December 2023. Any restrictions will only take effect for articles that are submited in 2024. The ETH Library is available to support you in dealing with the possible changes and challenges and will answer your questions.
Taylor & Francis
Articles accepted during the no-contract situation from January 2024 onwards cannot be published via the Taylor & Francis open access workflow for the time being.
Publishing in hybrid journals will only be possible in closed access form. Alternatively, you can either pay the fees for an open access publication yourself or self-archive the article via the Research Collection. The ETH Library will not pay the fees for open access in hybrid journals during the no-contract situation, but will endeavour to retroactively integrate all articles accepted in 2024 into a new contract.
APC invoices for articles in Taylor & Francis pure gold open access journals, on the other hand, can still be submitted to ETH Library using the protected pageapplication for open-access publication fees form.
