SYoS-Lecture: Responsible assessment of open science

In collaboration between the ETH Library and EPFL, the third lecture of the Swiss Year of Scientometrics (SYoS) will take place in Lausanne on 7 February 2024. Dr Elizabeth Gadd speaks about the challenges of research assessment in the context of open science.

Various discussions and initiatives are underway on how research should be evaluated. For example, the external page CoARA Agreement calls to value a broader spectrum of research contributions to be assessed. With the increasing importance of Open Science, the question arises as to how Open Science can be measured and evaluated. What should be evaluated? Is there any data on Open Science that can be used to evaluate it adequately? Is it appropriate to evaluate Open Science with closed data sources? What could be unintended consequences?

In her lecture Elizabeth Gadd will introduce the external page SCOPE framework of the "International Network of Research Management Societies INORMS" to answer some of these questions and try to extend scientometrics with responsible assessment of Open Science.

After the lecture, there will be an opportunity to discuss the questions raised.

The lecture "The responsible assessment of open science" will take place on 7 February 2024 from 5.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. The venue is EPFL, Rte des Noyerettes, 1015 Lausanne, im MED 2 1522. The lecture will be held in English.

All attendees are warmly invited to join the "Apéro" in the foyer afterwards.
