The Paul Bernays Lectures are an annual lecture series about the philosophy of the exact sciences. The series is established in honour of the eminent logician, mathematician as well as philosopher of logic and mathematics Paul Bernays who was engaged in teaching and research at ETH Zurich from 1934 to 1959. The series was founded in 2012 by the now emeritus philosopher Giovanni Sommaruga (D-GESS).
The theme of this year’s Paul Bernays Lectures is: «Information processing at the quantum scale with superconducting circuits»
They will be held by Michel Devoret, Professor of Physics at the University of California Santa Barbara and Chief Scientist at Google Quantum AI.
The lectures will take place at ETH Zurich Zentrum and Hönggerberg Campus:
- Lecture 1: Physics of Information
Wednesday, 18 December 2024, 5.00 p.m., lecture hall: HG F 30 (Audi Max, Zentrum Campus)
- Lecture 2: Quantum error correction beyond the break-even point
Thursday, 19 December 2024, 5.00 p.m., lecture hall: HPV G 4 (Hönggerberg Campus)
- Lecture 3: Readout of a superconducting qubit at very large detuning
Friday, 20 December 2024, 5.00 p.m., lecture hall: HPV G 4 (Hönggerberg Campus)
All lectures are given in English and the first lecture is aimed at a general audience.
Registration is not required.
