Raffaello D’Andrea elected to Logistics Hall of Fame

Since its inception in 2003, the Logistics Hall of Fame has been dedicated to documenting the milestones of logistics and honors international personalities who have made an impact on the further development of logistics and supply chain management beyond their own companies. D'Andrea, Mountz and Wurman are honored as pioneers of mobile robotics and innovators of the “goods to person” concept for their significant contributions to the logistics sector.

Raffaello D’Andrea is co-founder of Kiva Systems (now Amazon Robotics), which he built together with Mountz and Wurman. At Kiva he was responsible for robot control, navigation, coordination, and fleet learning algorithms/software – what is commonly referred to as artificial intelligence today. The development of mobile robots that lift goods in and out of warehouse shelves has been a key factor in the progress of order development in eCommerce.

In addition to his role at ETH Zurich, D’Andrea is also the founder of Verity. The ETH spin-off pioneers mobile intelligence using fleets of fully autonomous drones for commercial warehouses. The Verity system is already deployed in over 100 warehouses worldwide, with prominent partners like IKEA, On, and UPS actively using it to enhance their operations.

The official induction ceremony took place on 5 December 2024, at the annual gala reception at the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport in Berlin. The Logistics Hall of Fame is under the patronage of the German Federal Minister Dr. Volker Wissing.
