New townhall series on the importance of physical fitness for well-being

The second instalment of the new townhall series “Well-being in challenging times”, organised by the Vice President for Personnel Development and Leadership, Julia Dannath, kicked off on 29 January. This time around, the subject is physical fitness. During the virtual event, Dannath and the other participants discussed how important exercise is to our well-being.

Physical fitness is essential to our well-being – especially during the pandemic, when most of our “movement” is virtual as we work from home. This offered Julia Dannath an opportunity to show members of the ETH community some strategies for improving their physical fitness.

Exercise can balance out the daily office grind and reduce stress. But deliberately planning in some downtime is also part of physical fitness. When mind, body and spirit are in harmony, this can have a positive effect on our cognitive performance.

The moveETH initiative aims to improve this performance through physical fitness by encouraging all members of the ETH community to post their exercise activities on social media and motivate their fellow students and colleagues to stay active.

Julia Dannath’s townhall event was supported by Rector Sarah Springmann, Vice President Ulrich Weidmann, ASVZ Director Lorenz Ursprung and occupational health officer Leonhard Sigel.

The virtual event was attended by 783 employees and doctoral students. If you missed the townhall, you can watch the video recording here. The next Townhall in this series will take place in February, this time with the theme "Mental Fitness" and the ALEA Award (The Art of Leadership Award from ETH Zurich).
