Researchers
Together with the other institutions of the ETH Domain and swissuniversities, ETH Zurich is doing everything in its power to support and host researchers from Ukraine. ETH Zurich will provide financial support to research groups that employ Ukrainian researchers. The concrete modalities are currently being worked out. Research groups from ETH Zurich that are willing to host Ukrainian researchers should inscribe themselves on the two lists available with details of their research area as well as the type and duration of employment:
Ukrainians can enter Switzerland without a visa and stay freelycall_made in the Schengen area for a total of 90 days.
Those from the Ukraine who are seeking protection after having had to flee their country because of the war will be granted protection status "S" in Switzerland. Please note the authorities' definition of the group of persons in need of protectioncall_made. In addition to Ukrainian nationals and their family members, persons from third country nationals who have had to flee the country because of the war will also receive protection status "S". The prerequisite is that they had a valid residence permit in Ukraine prior to their flight and are unable to return safely and permanently to their home country. Persons who have already been granted protection status in another EU state are not eligible for protection status "S".
With protection status "S", persons are granted the right of residence in Switzerland for one year. This period can be extended. With protection status "S", the persons concerned will receive social assistance and be able to pursue gainful employment subject to a work permit without a waiting period.
ETH can apply for a work permit for persons with protection status "S" and issue an employment contract. Professors and supervisors should contact the respective HR partners with regard to employment: Overview of responsibilities.
